1. Who we are

This Privacy Policy applies to movingcost-calculator.com (the “Site”, “we”, “us”). We operate a free, informational moving cost calculator. Contact: support@movingcost-calculator.com.

2. Information we collect

a) Information you choose to provide

• Calculator inputs — distance, bedrooms/property type, floors, elevator, move type, date/flexibility, services selected. By default these are stored only in your browser (sessionStorage/localStorage) and are not transmitted to our servers.
• Contact messages — if you use the Contact page, we receive your name, email, subject, and message so we can reply. This is sent only when you submit the form.
• Share link / PDF — if you click “Copy share link” or “Download PDF”, the estimate is encoded into a URL hash (base64url) or rendered client-side as a PDF. The share link may be sent to someone you choose; we don’t store it server-side.

b) Automatically collected (standard logs)

• Our hosting provider may log IP address, user-agent, requested page, timestamp, and referrer for security, abuse prevention, and performance — retained per provider policy and not used to profile you.
• We do not use cross-site tracking, geocoding APIs, or precise location services for the calculator.

3. Cookies & local storage

We keep it minimal:

• Theme preference — theme in localStorage to remember light/dark.
• Calculator state — sessionStorage/localStorage for your current estimate so you don’t lose it on refresh or navigation.
• No advertising cookies: we don’t set ad targeting or cross-site tracking cookies.

You can clear these at any time via your browser’s storage/cookie settings — the calculator will still work, you’ll just start from defaults. See also our cookie notice below.

4. How we use information

• Operate and improve the Site and calculator accuracy (rate tables, seasonal multipliers, comparison logic).
• Respond to messages you send via the Contact page.
• Ensure security, prevent abuse, and diagnose performance issues.
• Comply with legal obligations if required.

Legal basis (EEA/UK): consent (when you submit Contact), legitimate interests (operating the Site, security), and legal obligation where applicable.

5. Sharing & third parties

We don’t sell your personal information and we don’t share calculator inputs with movers/brokers.

• Hosting / infrastructure — e.g., static hosting / CDN and email delivery for Contact replies — limited to what’s necessary to run the Site, bound by their own privacy terms.
• Fonts — we load Inter / JetBrains Mono from Google Fonts (preconnect to fonts.googleapis.com / fonts.gstatic.com). Google may process IP as part of font delivery per Google’s terms.
• Legal / safety — if required by law or to protect rights, safety, and integrity of the Site.

6. Data retention

• Calculator inputs in your browser persist until you clear storage or we change the storage key in an update.
• Contact messages are retained only as long as needed to handle your request and for a reasonable follow-up period, then deleted or archived.
• Server logs are retained per hosting provider policy (typically short-term).

7. Your rights & choices

• Access / correction / deletion: email us at support@movingcost-calculator.com — we’ll help with data you’ve provided via Contact.
• Clear local data: clear site data / localStorage / sessionStorage in your browser to erase calculator state and theme.
• Do Not Track: we don’t track across sites, so DNT signals require no additional action.
• EEA/UK/California: depending on your jurisdiction you may have rights to access, portability, objection, or to request deletion. Contact us to exercise them; we won’t discriminate for doing so.

8. Children’s privacy

The Site is not directed to children under 13 (or 16 where applicable). We don’t knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided data, contact us and we will delete it.

9. International transfers

We are hosted where our provider operates. If you use the Site from the EEA/UK or elsewhere, information you voluntarily provide via Contact may be processed in other countries under the safeguards our providers offer.

10. Security

We use HTTPS and follow standard practices, but no method is 100% secure. Calculator data staying in your browser is the strongest privacy guarantee we can offer — nothing leaves your device unless you explicitly share it.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy to reflect new features (e.g., optional analytics only with consent), legal requirements, or provider changes. We’ll update the “Last updated” date and, for material changes, provide notice on the Site.
